The South Bay area offers a little bit of everything when it comes to outdoor activities. Whether you like to run, bike, swim, hike, or just take in the scenery, there is something for you. These are just a few of the events and areas that are ready and waiting to be explored!
The Strand This paved bike path, also known as the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, stretches along 22 miles of the coast from Torrance Beach to Will Rogers Beach. It serves as a de facto border between the beach and the communities that surround it. Don’t let the name bike trail deter you. This route is filled with runners, walkers, skateboarders, baby strollers, and just about any other wheeled vehicle you can think of. It’s the perfect way to explore a nice stretch of the South Bay area! Manhattan Beach 10K This race will take you through a six-mile scenic course ending at the Manhattan Beach Pier. It was founded in 1978 and now has a dedicated team of more than 100 volunteers who make it happen each year. The 10k is typically held on the first Saturday in October and is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Local bands perform along the course, and all participants are invited to a post-race expo featuring food from local vendors. Visit the race website for additional details. Palos Verdes Hiking If hiking is more your speed, the South Bay is home to one of the best trails in California. The Palos Verdes Land Conservancy manages several trails that take you from the forest to the ocean, and everywhere in between. There are a variety of hikes available to suit your level of expertise, and monthly guided nature walks for those who want to learn more about native plants and wildlife along the trails or meet new people along the way.
